rusia -
The Russian Foreign Ministry issued a list of sanctions against 121 Australians, including journalists and defense officials, citing a growing 'Russiaphobic agenda' in Australia.

Mining giants Gina Rinehart and Andrew Forrest, Seven West Media boss Kerry Stokes and South Australian Prime Minister Peter Malinauskas are on the latest list.

Journalists from ABC News, the Sydney Morning Herald, Nine and Sky News as well as several defense officials are among the sanctioned individuals.

Australia has imposed sanctions on military commanders and those close to Russian President Vladimir Putin since Russia's invasion of Ukraine on 24 February.

President Putin's media secretary Dmitry Peskov, and Russia's Foreign Ministry Information Director Maria Zakharova are among those affected by the sanctions.

Russia announced a similar move against a dozen British journalists Tuesday in what Moscow described as a response to Western sanctions and "the continued spread of fake news about Russia".

The list of British journalists affected by the sanctions includes senior journalists, television news anchors, editors and senior managers including the Editor-in-Chief of well-known media outlets such as the Times, Daily Telegraph, Independent and Guardian.

Western powers have previously announced sweeping sanctions against Russia over the past few months over what they call its invasion of Ukraine.

Moscow itself says it is carrying out a 'special military operation' into Ukraine, with the aim of disarming it and eliminating the 'Nazi-like attitude shown by some Ukrainians'.
New wave of UK sanctions against Russia

Meanwhile the UK has imposed sanctions on Russia's Child Human Rights Commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova and the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Reverend Patriarch Kirill as part of a new wave of sanctions amid the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.

The UK Foreign Office said sanctions against Lvova-Belova for the forced transfer and adoption of Ukrainian children and Reverend Kirill were targeted "because of their blatant support for Russia's military aggression against Ukraine."

The statement added that four senior military officers from a unit "known to have killed, raped and tortured civilians" in the Ukrainian city of Bucha were also witnesses.

"We bear witness to President Putin's execution of wars that have caused suffering in Ukraine including the forcible transfer and adoption of children," British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said in a statement.

The British government said sanctions were also carried out against Putin's allies, military commanders and arms suppliers to Russia.
