Dhaka -

About 10,000 Muslims rallied in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka to protest insulting remarks made by Indian politicians on the Prophet Muhammad SAW that sparked anger in the Islamic world. This is the second demonstration in the past week to be held in Bangladesh, which borders India.

As reported by AFP , Friday (17/6/2022), Bangladeshi demonstrators rallied to the front of Dhaka's largest mosque on Thursday (16/6) local time and attempted to move in front of the Indian Embassy before being blocked by local police.

In their action, they shouted slogans, one of which reads 'Muslims of the world unite'.

"There were about 10,000 participants. They were peaceful," a senior local police official, Enamul Haq, told AFP .

The demonstration on Thursday (16/6) local time was organized by Islami Andolan Bangladesh, which is one of the largest Islamic political parties in the country. Bangladesh is a country with the fourth largest Muslim population in the world.

In the latest demonstration in Dhaka, the orators of the demonstrations called for a boycott of Indian products and demanded Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina to file a formal protest against India.

Hasina, who has ruled Bangladesh for 13 years, is a close ally of India and does not share in condemning the controversial remarks of Indian politicians.
