usa - Brutal shootings have occurred again in the United States . The shooting at a church in the state of Alabama killed two people and injured one.

The shooting occurred on Thursday (16/6) local time at St Stephen's Episcopal Church in the town of Vestavia Hills . The city's police department wrote on Facebook that a suspect was detained following the shooting . The identity of the suspect was not disclosed.

The church said on its website that the shooting took place while the church was holding a makeshift dinner.

Police captain Shane Ware told reporters that an assailant entered the church and started shooting. Three people were shot, two of them died and one was hospitalized.

The United States is in the midst of a terrible chapter of the gun violence epidemic. The most fatal case in this series of violence was the shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas that killed 19 children and two teachers on May 24.

Since the start of this year, more than 20,000 people have died as a result of gun violence in the United States. That's according to an NGO called the Archives of Gun Violence. This includes death by suicide.

Reporting from DW , US President Joe Biden has advocated a ban on long-barreled weapons amid rampant shootings. This is an attempt among other measures to prevent armed violence.

The push to pass stricter gun sales regulations has also emerged from survivors. An 11-year-old survivor of a mass shooting in Texas speaks before the US Congress. He recounted an attempt to save himself when the assailant shot a friend next to him. The boy said, "I took the blood and smeared it all over my body."
