Marijuana legalization is good news for cancer patients in Thailand

It has been more than a week since the Thai government legalized marijuana. Patients and people with severe illnesses who use the plant for treatment, feel grateful because the price of cannabis extract medicines has become cheaper.

As is known,

Thailand became the first country in Southeast Asia to legalize the cultivation and consumption of marijuana on June 9, 2022. The local government will also continue to encourage the increase in cannabis agriculture by distributing quality seeds to the community.

This encouragement

of production is expected to enrich cannabis varieties so that their quality becomes the best in the world, for medical purposes.

One of the breast cancer patients from Thailand, Jiratti Kuttanam (42) shared her experience in buying medicines from cannabis extracts. He admitted that he was happy with the government's decision because he previously had to pay a high price for a number of painkillers made from marijuana.

Medicines from

cannabis extracts have been legalized in Thailand since 2018. But before the government made a new policy, Jirrati admitted that it was difficult to get cannabis extract drugs because they were expensive. According to her, many patients had to buy from illegal sellers.

"I often consume marijuana regularly so I don't feel pain," Jirrati said, quoted by Reuters, Monday (6/20/2022).

Since five years ago, Jirrati has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Over the past two years, she has often used cannabis oil and other products to reduce pain, vomiting, fatigue and anxiety after chemotherapy.

She also often boiled marijuana leaves for tea and filled her apartment with the scent of marijuana.

Despite being legalized, Jirrati warns that cannabis can be dangerous if used recklessly and irresponsibly. But if used with purpose, it can be a very useful product.

"I think people need to be educated, you need to know how to use it properly. It (marijuana) can be dangerous," he added.
